The Silver Kiss (book)

When I was in high school a read a book called "The Silver Kiss".
(I read the Dutch translation that was called "De zilveren kus".)
I read it for a book report and because I thought a book with a vampire theme would be interesting.
So I loaned it from my local library and started reading.
I was surprised to how much I actually liked the book.

The book was written by Annette Curtis Klause, who is most famous for writing the book Blood & Chocolate.
I haven't read the book Blood & Chocolate yet, but I have seen the movie (it's in my movie collection).
It's available in a lot of different languages.

The story is about a girl named Zoë that lives in some town in America.
She's just a normal girl, except for the fact that her mother is dying of cancer and it's ripping her family apart.
Her mother can't deal with it, her father can't deal with it and neither can Zoë.
Zoë can't talk about it with her best friend , and to make it worse, that friend is moving to a different country.
Just when Zoë thinks her life is falling apart and she will be all alone on this world, she meets Simon.
At first he seems like a normal boy, but at a closer look, he is different.
He looks young but also old in a wise way, he looks old fashioned but also punk and he has a translucent, silver, beauty.
It turns out Simon is a vampire.

I really like this books because it is intense.
I'm not a person that's easily scared of emotions and like books and movies that have lot's of them.
It's not a flat story at all.
It's so real it could happen to you.

There are some great poems in this book written by Zoë.
Unfortunately I can't look them up right now, since the book is stashed in a box in my room, because I'm moving soon.

I've also written a little poetry myself, about this book, but it's also stashed away and in Dutch.

As usual I haven't written too much about the plot of the book so that if you haven't read it, and you want to read it, I haven't spoiled it for you.
I like to write reviews on books and movies but I always try not to reveal to much so I won't spoil the fun for others.
That's why my reviews may be a bit superficial compared to other reviews that do reveal the whole story and discuss it.

I'll add the poetry later when I'm in my new apartment, but for now you just have to read the book (really, do read it!)!
I can really recommend this book if you like to read about vampires, like love stories, or good old fashioned drama.

Ginger Snaps (the movie)

When I was still a teenager I saw the movie Ginger Snaps on the birthday party of one of my friends.
None of us had ever seen this movie, but it seemed kind of cool, so we rented it.
It turned out to be this wicked horror movie that remains one of my favourites till this day.
Its a low-budget Canadian cult movie and I love it!

The story is a about 2 sisters in a small town.
They hate everyone and everything and they are obsessed with death.
One night one of the sisters gets bitten and that changes everything.
The sister changes.
She likes things and people that she used to hate and her body is changing as well.
The other sister has to find a way to save her before it's to late.

I like this movie because you can really relate to the sisters.
Not in a way that I'm obsessed with death and want to kill myself (hell no), but in a way of not fitting in.
I guess everyone can relate to not always fitting in and feeling all alone in this world.
Also, this movie deals with the paranormal, which I always like, and it this horror/thriller gets you on the edge of your seat.
This movie has everything a good horror movie should have: love, humour, thill, great special effects and a good storyline.

Review: Lush: 13 Soap (Unlucky For Dirt)

Ingredients: Oregano and Rose Petal Infusion (Origanum vulgare and Rosa centifolia), Propylene Glycol, Rapeseed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil (Brassica napus; Helianthus annuus; Cocos nucifera), Water (Aqua), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Honey, Perfume, Sodium Hydroxide, Manuka Honey, Sodium Stearate, Oregano Oil (Origanum vulgare), Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena), Geranium Oil (Pelargonium graveolens), Sodium Chloride, Geraniol, *Limonene, COlour 14700.
*Komt van nature voor in essentiële olieën.

Offical Lush Description: Our beautiful rose and oregano soap gets its name from a 1931 Hollywood film about a soap company. The son advertised a soap that didn't exist and the demand was so high, the dad had to make it. It sounds like typical Lush, except for the advertising part. Sue from Chelmsford and Dawn from Cambridge had been asked for an oregano soap by nurses, because they'd heard that oregano kills MRSA bacteria. (University of the West of England 2008). This lovely soap has been like gold dust; we adore its translucent loveliness, its scent and its effective cleansing properties.

This is one of my favourite soaps!
It smells like oregano and rose and a bit of honey.
Like you could eat it, but definitely not like pizza.
To me it smells like sweet flowers (that's the rose and honey) with a lot of oregano.
The resulting scent is enchanting!
I happen to like rose, and love honey and especially oregano.
It's actually my favourite herb.

I really like that it gets rid of dirt and kills bacteria very well.
The cleansing effect and the scent make that I feel really clean afterwards and relieves me of fears about bacteria.

Because it kills bacteria so well it's a great soap for in the bathroom, by the toilet sink or in the kitchen.
You could also use it in the shower offcourse.
I haven't used it in the shower myself, but I think it would be mind blowing!

13 soaps lathers well but there isn't a lot of foam.
It isn't extremely drying or hydrating.
I hydrates just as well as other Lush glycerine soaps.
After a while the soap loses its colour and turnes white, but the scent stays :D.
After washing my hands with this soap, the scent stays on my skin for hours (not exaggerating) and I keep smelling my skin.
It's just one of my favourite scents and smelling it makes me happy :D.

I really should get some more of this soap!

(And you should try it too!)

Avatar, the movie

A few weeks ago I went to the movies with a friend of mine.
I had heard that Avatar (a 3D movie) was supposed to be awesome, so I decided to go see it.
When we arrived at the cinema, the lobby was crammed full of people that wanted to see Avatar.
Because of that, we had to sit at the front row :S.
We were handed goggles to wear, so we could see the movie in 3D.
Needless to say, the goggles weren't pretty (though nice colours: black and red), but since everyone was wearing them, it didn't bother me.

The movie started and I was amazed by the 3D effects.
There was so much going on on the screen and since it was in 3D it made me dizzy and a bit nauseous for the first 30 minutes.
After that, my body adjusted to the 3D effect and the speed of it, and I could enjoy the movie better.
The main character is a guy called Jake Sully, who is in the Navy (I think).
He is paralysed from the waist down and therefore in a wheelchair.
In the movie there's a war on a planet between humans and blue creatures called Avatar.
American scientist have made hybrids of Avatar and human dna.
The human the dna was used is linked to the hybrid, and so the human can take over the mind of the avatar.
Jake Sully is one of those people that is linked to an Avatar and he is sent to the Avatar to learn from them.
He learns a lot and nothing will be the same ever again.
I won't say anymore, since I don't want to ruin it for you if you haven't seen Avatar yet.
I do advise you however, to go see this movie!
It's awesome and you really don't want to miss it!

So, here's the movie trailer (it's a bit boring, but the movie definitely isn't!):

So, what do you think of Avatar?

Karma SG for Queensday

In the Netherlands we celebrate Queensday on april 30.
It isn't exactly the queens date of birth, but we celebrate it that day anyway.
To celebrate Queensday, Lush NL (Netherlands) persuaded Lush UK to make us Dutchies Karma SG!!!

They made 100 bottles especially for us and the prize was 15,95 euro for a 250ml bottle.
It was rather expensive, but since it's a rare and exclusive Shower Gel (and I'm pretty much a Lush SG addict) I think it's worth it.
The 100 bottles were sold out within 2 hours *shock*!
Luckily, I scored 2 bottles before it was sold out :D.
I also ordered a purple flower Furoshiki.

It has my 3 favourite colours on it: Teal, Purple and Orange and I just love the graphics!

I'll post pics of my order when it arrives!

Give-away on Oh My Gosh blog

On the blog Oh My Gosh by Jasmine she has a give-away.
What you have to do is be a follower and post a comment on her blog!

She has a great blog.
She posts a lot of EOTD's (Eyes Of The Day) in gothic or funky styles and she also makes great NOTD's (Nails Of The Day).
She has long nails and uses bright and dark colours on her nails.
She also uses nailstickers and special polishes, like holographic.
Often she also makes swatches of make-up and posts FOTD's (Face Of The Day) or LOTD's (Lips Of The Day).
She knows a lot about make-up and how to apply it and make great looks with it.
I check her blog at least every few days and if possible, daily.

Desigual Coat pics :D

A while ago, I wrote about a green desigual coat, and other desigual clothes I loved.
I wanted to try them on at the V&D and snap pics of me wearing them.
It didn't work out the way I planned.
Yes, I DID try them on in the fitting room, and of 2 coats I snapped a pic, but the pics weren't very good.
The flash reflected in the mirror which made the pics awfull.
Anyway, here are the 2 pics.
I stopped making more since it didn't work out.

I couldn't close the zipper of this one, since there was all this crap attached to the zipper (beads and string and things like that.
Also, I'm wearing weird baggy clothes :S so please only look at the jacket!
This is the one that has the picture of a tiger on the back.

This green coat is the one I want most of all.
It's a European size 40, which is too big, but the size 38 was sold out, so I couldn't try that on.
Sadly, there was a button missing :(.
I think this coat would look really good on me if I wear the right size and the coat isn't damaged.
